TRENDS AND FADS

One of the topics that we discussed in the subject, tnct is trends and fads. It is always present in our everyday life. Each day we encounter different trends and fads. The difference of trends and fad is, trends are present for a long period of time, while the fads are shorter period of time.

Below are the top 5 examples of fads that I have encounter;  

PSP

example of the fad is psp. During my elementary days, every kid is fond in their gadgets like, phones, tablets, but PSP is the most popular of all because it has a variety of games that you can play and it also has bluetooth to connect and play with other gamers around you. 

IPOD NANO

The second fad that I have encountered is the ipod nano, during the year 2009-2011, our batch had their own ipods, where we listen to different genre of musics like the music of taylor swift and Selena Gomez.

POPS ICE CREAM

The third Fad that I have encounter is the POPS Ice cream from selecta, it was a very famous ice cream treat to all children because of the thick chocolate covering the creamy and delicious vanilla. It was a different ice cream because of its appearance, ice creams back then was in popsicle sticks or in a small container. The POPS was different so it became a trend during the year 2008.  

ZUMA DELUXE

The fourth fad is the most famous game during the year 2008, Zuma. It was our favorite game back then because of the only objective in the game. Don’t let the balls come near the skull or you will lose. It also help us kids to easily determine the colors and increase our skills in colors; also it is quite entertaining because of its amazing sound effects especially when the balls are banging to each other.

FB GAMES

The Fifth and the last fad example is the FB games like, Farmville, Yoville, and Pet society. These three are the common games that we have played during our childhood days because of its cuteness and entertaining setup. Facebook games is our number 1 entertainment back then. 


Below are also top 5 trends that I encounter;

IPHONE

The first trend is IPHONE. Year 2007 when apple launched their first ever phone, the iPhone 3 and it became a hit to the people because of its uniqueness and portability access to camera, clock, messages, mails and many more applications. The iPhone was the first smartphone to dominate the gadget industry and the iPhone 3 was followed by the iPhone 3gs and then iPhone 4 and so on. Until today iPhone is very trendy. 

NIKE SHOES

The 2nd trend is shoes from nike. Ever since when nike release a new shoes, shoe enthusiast are very eager to buy them because it is known that nike produces high quality and hand made shoes that ensures long lasting usage. When Jordan series and Kobe series was released, many people bought it because it was designed by a basketball player. Up to know, nike was still on trend also because of their amazing designs and nice texture of shoes. 

POLAROID

The third is Polaroid camera. It was first released way back 1947 but it was discontinued, it was only brought back to life in early 2000’s and until now it is being modified and develop much more sharp image.

MAKE UP

The fourth is make up. Back then make up is a trend specially to women because it looks good and it makes them more confident. Back then children has a toy make up wherein they are practicing on how to put make ups. Up to the present, make up was still on trend because make up helps women to look confidently beautiful. 

                                       

                  

PLAY STATION

The fifth and the last trend that I have encounter is the play station console series. When ps1 was released way back 1994 many gamers are eager to buy and play games with it because of its uniqueness. As Sony releases a new version such as ps2 ps3 and ps4 it is a big deal for gamers because of fast portability.

Pan's Labyrinth: Film Review

Pan’s Labyrinth was set during 1944 in Spain during the World War II. Ofelia, a girl who is fascinated with fantasies and fairy-tales was sent with her sick pregnant mother to live with her stepfather known as Captain Vidal is an unforgiving and a hard-hearted captain of the Spanish Army. During the night, she saw the insect that she saw earlier when they were on their way to her step father’s. The insect becomes much more like a fairy and it leads her to the labyrinth in the middle of the night. She drop few stairs and saw a creepy fraun that tells her that she is a princess in their world. But before that, she needs  to complete three task in order for her to get back to her real home. It’s not easy for her to complete those three task because while she was trying to achieve those, she also encounter problems that she need to face in the real world, specially when her mother died. She need to face the reality that she lost her mother and her only companion was Mercedes. Things didn’t get that much easy, Captain Vidal catches her and Merceds in the forest. Captain Vidal brings Merceds to a room to torture her but the outcome was different. Vidal was the one who were stabbed. Mercedes run free and the rebels save her life. On the other hand, Ofelia was given a second chance by the Fraun but she was ordered by the fraun to steal her brother while she was running from the stabbed Captain Vidal. When she arrived in the Labyrinth, she was ask her to spill some blood of his brother in order for her to get back to her world. As a good sister, she refuses to do so. When vidal found her, he get his son and shot her. When Vidal was on the end on the Labyrinth he saw his rivals with Mercedes. That time, he already that he will die, so he gave his Son to Mercedes and after that he was shot. Mercedes found Ofelia inside the Labyrinth dead and her blood drops into the pool the reason why it opens the passage to the other world. She saw her real parents seating in a thrones and the one was for her. She also saw the fairies and the fraun. She Finally smile and realized that she is finally back at her real home. 


GIANT TOAD & FIG TREE

        I really love how Guillermo Del Toro, the director, chose the theme of the story and how he shows foreshadowing in the scenes. In the movie, ofelia had 3 task, she needs to complete those tasks in order for her to return to her home world. The first task that was given to her was to feed three magic stones to the giant toad that lives inside an ancient fig tree. Ofelia, believes that her baby brother is the reason why her mother got sick. One of the symbolism that I saw in the movie was the tree, the tree symbolizes as the Faun because the tree really matches the look of the Faun in the movie, it could also represent as the reproductive system of her mother because when you look at the poster of the movie itself, the shape of the tree looks like the reproductive system of a female. The Toad symbolizes as Ofelia’s baby brother since the Giant Toad lives inside the ancient tree that represents her mother’s reproductive system. Additional to the that, the key symbolizes as the Phallus/ of the male.

PALE MAN & VIDAL

                                        

As her second task, Ofelia entered a room and saw a freaking-creepy monster that has long nails and has no eyes on his face. The faun warned her to just retreive the item and don’t be tempted to the fruits that was placed above the table because when she eat a grape, the monster gets awaken. She can’ resist but eat, and this was the reason why the monster awakens and saw her inside that room. What could be the symbolism of this? For me, the monster symbolizes Captain Vidal, he is a control freak, Ofelia knows that she will not be able to defeat him, but on his world, she must kill that monster in order for her to defeat Captain Vidal in the reality. Another symbolism is the fairy, they represents as ths children. During the Spanish Era, the children doesn’t have any childhood, meaning, it is either they were killed or they will not be able to experience the fun of being a child. The fairy were being killed by the monster like how the children were being killed during that certain time.

BABY BROTHER

Her third and last task was to bring her baby brother in the labyrinth and offer his blood in order for her to be back in her real home yet she refused to do so, the reason why she remain in the reality world. But unfortunately, she was killed by Captain Vidal because she was caught by him. The good part is, she was able to get back to her imaginary world. It represents that she is a good person/sister because she chose to live even and save her brother, even though she knows that she will not be able to enjoy her life in this world.

FASCISM

I think one of the current issues that I can relate in the movie is Fascism. President Duterte and Captain Vidal are both straightforward and  both the highest in authority in their area. Whatever they say are already law to their men or soldiers and it shall be done by the people under them and if they question their rule, or disagree with their rule, legal punishment shall be implemented. There was a scene in the movie that Vidal shot the two men who just hunt for rabbits because they believed that they did something malicious. In the current event, the war on drugs, where in policemen doesn't truly know the background of those people and yet they still tend to kill them. Both Vidal and Duterte have the same attitude and way of ruling their people.

PERSONAL REFLECTION

MY PERSONAL REFLECTION ABOUT THE FILM
If I will rate this movie, I will give it a 10/10. I really love the flow of the story and the story itself. It may be hard to understand some of the parts but when you watched the whole film, you will be able to know and analyze deeper meanings in the scenes. I also love how they show those meaning indirectly and how the other world were connected to the other.  At some point, I was quite nervous and scared when some of the brutal scene where shown in the movie. But overall, it was a nice movie. I love the concept, and how the movie was made; the flow of the story where in it started with a flashback.  

"PISTANG TOMASINO"

On February 12-14 there was a bazaar inside the UST campus. It is a project of the UST simbahayan. “Pistang Tomasino” where the products are mostly handmade and cultural based like foods, decorations, jewelry, and many more. But i only bought 3 products because it catches my attention because of its uniqueness and creativeness.

BRACELET

One of the products that i bought in that event is
bracelet, it is made from plastic beads. It really caught my attention because it looks nice and it was stunning, it is unique because if you look at it, it look like you are wearing a silver bracelet because of its silver-ly color and its design is symetrical that follows the same pattern. Another thing is, it can be adjustable so customers can adjust whether it is for the people who has big wrist or small wrist can purchasethis wonderful product with confidence because it can fit you no matter what wrist size you have. This product has different varieties of colors, it has mix of black and yellow, red and black, and single color of gold and silver. The reason why I chose silver is because it looks sophisticated and classy at the same time. The store don’t only sell bracelet they also sell earings, bells and rings they are also great and unique in terms of how they are made and the quality for a cheap price, but this bracelet really catches my attention. Another thing is, i bought this product for only a cheap price, for only 35 pesos only. I think that this bracelet will trend because of its uniqueness, the way it is made it looks classy, even though i only bought this for a cheap price, and lastly it is not heavy to wear, you can wear it everyday.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING AWARENESS BRACELET

Another product that I bought in the bazaar is this, “human trafficking awareness bracelet”. This bracelet really caught my attention because I see that it helps people restore their dignity, the women who made this bracelet are engage in various projects that sustains them and their families. I bought this product because it helps people and uplifts economy. This product is made from stretchable rope (tali isip ka ibang term) and it has this design of a stop light where in the colors from the stop light symbolizes that red means stop human trafficking, while yellow is be aware of its effects and green to go and do something. This product promotes anti human trafficking because in my own opinion, I believe that we all have freedom. We live in a free and democratic country therefore we have the right to how we live our lives. Human trafficking is very common in the Philippines and no matter how hard the government try hard to exterminate human trafficking, it is still present in the Philippines. Human Trafficking is an act where syndicate kidnap and commands them what to do like transporting drugs, sex acts, and torture. Human trafficking is a crime against dignity. Each year human trafficking arises for example, child pornography rises each  year because education is not in reach for many parents. Philippines is the second most leading in human trafficking with estimated 400,000 victims. And me as a concern citizen of the Philippines I want to help and contribute to stop human trafficking to help those victimes to live a normal life where they can go outside with confidence and just have the time of their life. This bracelet symbolizes that I am an advocate of human dignity and I have high respect for those who bought this bracelet. It is stylish, simply and ethnic so it caught my attention to buy it. Also they don’t sell only bracelet they also sell keychains and other kinds of bracelet the product they are selling only cost for about P100-P150 only. All of their profit goes to the women who makes the product to help them and also it goes to the victims of human trafficking. I highly encourage everyone to buy this special product it’s not only for fashion but it is also for helping other people specially the victims of human trafficking, I am not a victim but I tried to put my self in their situation and I know that it is very hard. We should unite to help this victims to restore their dignity.

ARTIFICIAL FLOWER

Since it is February and Valentines is still in the air, i think I deserve a flower for myself. Love yourself! LOL. I bought this flower made from news paper and it was covered with cellophane that has different colors. This was made by the female in the parañaque city jail. Even though it is not a real flower, it’s still cute and I see this practical because when you bought a real flower in just weeks it will die, this paper flower will not deteriorate and you can put it in your room as decoration, in the kitchen to make it more appealing, in the garden to make it more attracting or even at your very door step to make your guest feel more welcome at your home. Shockingly, the flower is very sturdy and I can tell that it will last for a very long time the news paper are tighly rolled to form the stem and the flower itself. There are varieties of flowers that can be bought from them some are like tulips and sun flower but what I bought is the most cutest among all it is a pink rose that symbolize grace, elegance, as well as sweetness and romantic. The flower is only worth P20 very affordable and very sturdy product, this is worth the price! The store also sells wallet made from beads and has various design such as bears, minions, pigs etc. It is also sturdy because I held them but didn’t bought it they also sell keychains that is great for bags and pouches. All products are very affordable for a typical Thomasian you can buy many great stuff that is awesome and sturdy. I think this product will trend most specially on valentines day, because of its cheap price and also its uniqueness. Nothing special about it but it is cute and nice gift for your loved one. At the same time you will be able to help those female in parañaque city jail.



To end my blog I would say that i was very amazed with what i saw in the bazaar. Also, I am satisfied and very happy with what I bought at the bazaar, it was all worth it, if you are looking for a gift for a friend or for your significant other, buying items from the bazaar will surely help you make them very happy. In just 100-150 pesos you can buy many cool stuffs and some of the stalls in the bazaar said that they give certain amount of their income to charities and different parishes to help others.
